The E.U. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the region’s most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years. After four years of preparation and debate, the GDPR was finally approved by the E.U. Parliament on 14 April 2016. It will be enforced as of 25 May 2018 – at which time those organizations in non-compliance may face heavy fines.
The GDPR was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all E.U. citizens’ data privacy, and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy. For Duck Creek customers with a presence in this region – or those who are looking to expand into this market in the near future – it is critical that appropriate steps be taken to comply with the regulation.
